MY FALL SWEET SIXTEEN PLAN...

...even though it's still humid in Georgia, one day in the not so distant future all the leaves will start to turn.  So I think it's time for me to at least start prepping for Fall.

In the past I've given Fall Sewing Plans different titles like:
  • Fall Hit List
  • Flipping on Over Into Fall
  • Fall Dress Palazooa, and even my
  • Carnival of Skirts
This year  I think I'll call my plan "Fall Sweet Sixteen" (named for Project Runway's Season 16).  Corny maybe, but my dream is to stitch up 16 garments that will yield countless wonderful outfit combinations for Fall; a wardrobe capsule if you will:
  • 4 Coat/Jacket/Vest or Cardigan
  • 4 Tops/Tunics/Blouses or Tees
  • 4 Pants
  • 4 Dresses and/or Skirts
My problem with the wardrobe capsule concept however; has been being able to gather all my fabrics and patterns to set up a plan - I always stall out in this part of the process.  I haven't done that this time either.  Why?, because pulling out 16 fabrics/patterns would overwhelm me and I might stall out again.  To that end, I am just going to start sewing.  Select the first fabric and first pattern and keep pulling from the stash until  all sixteen pieces are done.

I won't put any kind of pressure on myself (like a deadline) for completing this Dream List.  But I'll start now and work steadily on the list.  Of course the plan is subject to change; every plan needs a disclaimer.  But I really would like to see this plan through.

What are your plans for starting Fall sewing???

  2. I haven't even begun to think of fall sewing yet. With the temps we're having lately I should. That's quite an ambitious list.

    1. I never seem to be able to finish all my seasonal sewing plans Catherine. I didn't finish this summer either so I'm just going to move along to Fall.

  3. I love the tittle of your post "Fall sweet 16". Food for though. I have no sewing plans at the moment; because, I am in the process of re-organizing and cleaning up my sewing space. I am looking forward to see what u come up with for your capsule wardrobe.

  4. You've given yourself a worthy goal. Maybe you can choose a top color you love, and then make pieces in color coordinated fabrics for the jackets/pants/skirts? Once you get an idea, you'll really roll, I'm sure.

    1. That's a good idea Marjie. I just couldn't wrap my brain around pulling 16 pieces of fabric out all at once.

  5. I love this idea, and the way you are going about it! It will be fabulous once you finish! I plan on a capsule wardrobe too, but I am still finishing up some other pieces first. Best wishes sewing!!

    1. Thank you for the good wishes Vanessa - I'm going to need them. Please let me know about your capsule wardrobe plans when you get to them.

  6. I like your idea. It mimics that one contest that PR runs where you sew a garment and the next garment matches it and the 3rd matches one or both of the prior garments.

I need jackets and dresses for fall/winter. And outerwear for fall!!

    1. Glad this all makes sense to you. It is my way of trying to attempt a capsule that contains more than 4 pieces (2 tops and 2 pants) which is the furthest I've ever gotten.

  7. After I finish sewing for a FL business trip in two weeks, I'll start my fall sewing. I was working on a 9 square Sudoko today. I'm struggling to get one diagonal line to match. I like sewing the endless combination that KS Sews is talking about. If I can get the Sudoko started, all of my other sewing with coordinate with the nine garments. Of course, everything is subject to change because I have trouble sticking to a plan.

    1. Thank you Tomasa. No, no deadline, I've got stress in other areas of life, can't let it into the sewing room.

  9. That's a good goal, and an ambitious one at that! I like the idea of no deadlines; it definitely takes the pressure off. I have a couple of jackets planned. I'd like to do a suit for my husband as a cosplay of David Tennant's Doctor Who. I know PR is having a cosplay contest, but a suit in a month for someone else might be too much pressure for me. And wouldn't you know I lost the video of Judy Barlup's speed tailoring method somewhere in my house? Sigh, it might be a longer process than I expect, and I think that's okay.

    1. I do hope you locate your video Elizabeth - it sounds like a really good one! Yes I'm going to know these projects out one piece of fabric and one pattern at a time with the least amount of stress and pressure possible. Keep your fingers crossed for me please.
