Keeping up with blog mechanics...

...Can someone, anyone tell me about Google Plus and it's circles.
  • what are it's benefits
  • have you joined it
  • can you have Google Plus and still keep your blog
  • or, is Google Plus just another way to introduce different people to your blog
Between Google Reader going down in July; to trying to learn, get use to, and transfer to Bloglovin; to learning how to upload pictures using Picasa - my brain is a little rattled.  I know it isn't necessary to have all of these things; but you know, a girl doesn't want to get left out of something good.  Right???

  1. i wanted a straight-forward blog recepter, not being a blogger. i tried out EVERYTHING. i did not want to be part of a social network for reasons of privacy. i ended up loving feedly. if you haven't tried it, do. i personally like how easy it is to transfer from google and to add anything from anywhere. (this is not a paid announcement. but maybe they should pay me?)

  2. I'm not into social networks, but "accidentally" had a Google plus account. It made my linking to Picasa photos impossible and could not do it the way I was used to do it. First I thought they had changed the way Picasa works, but in the end (after hours of trying and googling solutions) I found out it was the Google Plus account that made that Picasa worked different. After quitting the plus account everything was back to "normal" for me.
Whatever you choose to do, be aware of this kind of things happening.

    1. Thanks Sigrid. I really can't afford to mess up with Picasa especially since I'm just getting use to using it.

    1. Yes Judith, I'm so glad that people are so willing to share information through blogging.

  4. I still create my blog in blogger, but since learning that google reader will be going away, I have been using feedly. I wrote several posts about my decision process, all in March of this year.

  5. I have google plus, but don't really use it... it's just part of my google account. I haven't noticed any problems with linking picasa photos (and do use picasa for almost all my picture needs and have for a long time). Yes, you can still keep your blog.

When I joined bloglovin' all the blogs I read through google reader automatically transferred. Same with feedly, which I occasionally use. I'm still reading blogs through reader until it goes away.

  6. I'm still using google reader too, and bloglovin. I've never used google plus and I don't understand how it works either. Circles? Have no idea what that means.

  7. I created a Google plus account but have no idea how to use it Lol. I went to bloglovin and ever since have had to traffic on my blog. Not sure why or if people have just lost interest in my posts??? I'll be watching your comments Faye to see about Google plus.

    1. After Plus users comment and I link back to their plus - it seems that I am halted because I am not a member. I don't understand that since I am a google blog owner.

  8. I have a G+ account and use it. I really like it. There are Communities that I belong to and check in /post on. Some of the blogs I follow share their new posts on G+ (very easy) so I can comment right through that interface. When I check my gmail, any new additions to conversations are there so I am not relying on memory to keep up on which blog, community or G+ post I posted on (or have to look for it on the feed etc.). I think people are generally not at all knowledgable about the tools and features of google +. While I love it for the reasons above, I also enjoy that when I post sewing related stuff--I direct it to a circle I have designated for sewing friends. When I have a political article--I direct it to my political circle I created. Some people are in more than one circle but this way, stuff is not sent globally as many people have no interest in some things I am. I can also choose not to get posts from individual people as well. If I put someone in my circle, I can get their feed but they can choose not to add me to theirs and vice versa. In Facebook, I had to turn a friend off from my newsfeed because of his high volume of gun rights posts. Now I don't see his other posts either about music and nursing unless I go directly to his page. I think G+ is superior to Facebook--it is a better kept secret. I like to say the people I know are on Facebook. The people I want to know are on G+.

  9. Sorry Faye I don't have any idea! I'm looking for the same info and will be reading the answers here. I know that change is good, but it can also be a big pain in the butt!!

  10. Hi Faye,

I don't use the Google+ account. And for photos (inserted into my Blogger blog-posts) I use the photos originally uploaded to my Flickr account. I have a paid for account (they do free accounts too) with unlimited photos on Flickr - and I've found it very easy to insert the photos from there.

Here's a link about Flickr and blogging FAQs: http://www.flickr.com/help/blogging/

  11. i am just so frustrated with the whole thing. I like the format of feedly, have been also trying out bloglovin. But I will miss my google reader. Now that I have an iphone 5, I am finding it difficult to leave comments. I just want something simple.
