- I've been planning on pad my dressform to make it more like me and pinnable for a very long time now. I've seen lots of pictorials and watched oodles of videos that show multiple methods of padding. This video by Nick Verreos is by far the easiest of all the ones I've seen thus far. All that is needed is shoulder pads, pins and a tape measure. This method is easy peazy and I think it would work quite nicely with a one piece cover added afterwards

An easy breezy summer top made in cotton lawn. I choose view C and did have to blend two sizes, but other than that this pattern is straight forward and presented no challenges. I might make it again, next time maybe in a challis.
In the meantime I need to find a really easy online photo editor (preferably free). What photo editors do you use???
That looks like a helpful video on the dressform. That is one thing I don't have yet--I've always been so scared of buying the wrong size. Research is needed! :) I've used GIMP 2.8 for years. It's not online, but it is free and it'll let you do really a lot. In the past couple of years I've combined it with the native software for my Nikon (Nikon Capture dx) another really powerful free (well, with the camera!) easy program. Now I'm trying out PhotoDirector which came as a bundle with the video editing software I just got. So far it looks promising.

I took a digital photo class several years ago at my local community centre from this fellow http://www.bitsbytes.ca/digital_photo_editing.htm and he has a free editing paint.net program you can download off his site which is fabulous. I recommend HIGHLY you download off HIS site since this program when you google it comes up with loads of nasty, dirty sites that are NOT at all what you want - trust me :) His site does lead you to the correct one. This is a program that has been developed at a US university and is updated regularly by photography students. It's simple, brilliant and easy to use. I've been using it for years myself.

DeleteSuch a cute blouse! I too have padded my dress form (boo!). I purchased the Fabulous Fit foam pads but shoulder pads could work just as well and are much less expensive.

DeleteThat is an adorable top!!! And I still need to pad my dressform. I use it as is, and love it. I will get around to padding it soon. I second paint.net. There is a small learning curve, but it works. I also use be funky collage for basic adjustments.

DeleteThe serger cheat sheet is very helpful. I'm so wary of my serger that I actually have 2, one threaded in white and the other in black, so I don't have to change my thread. It's kind of sad. Your new top is very pretty; it should give you a sense of accomplishment as you go back to your pants!
ReplyDeleteI'm like you Marjie - I have one threaded white and one black too. Except the white one had been giving me problems for a while with stitches so tight that it actually gathered my fabric unless I pulled from the back while stitching. I had to get brave enough to unthread it and start from the beginning, and then there was the fact that I had inserted two different needle sizes. I actually had to play around with the lower looper tension too. I'd never had to do that before.
