AREN'T THESE TWO BOOKS THE SAME...

...

I already own this book, but I'm wondering
is this just a reprint of the Singer book?

  1. Yes! I own both and noticed that a few weeks ago. Funny, because the reprint on the right has the exact pics of the older version. I was hoping it would've been updated a little.....

Yes, Faye, you are correct, it is the same book. This is what I think is going on. The original books came out in the early 90's under the Singer name as part of a subscription series. You got a book ever six weeks or so. If you didn't want it you sent it back. If you did you paid something like 19.95 plus S&A. There were probably twenty something titles in the series. I have almost the complete set.

The publisher (not Singer since Singer contracts everything out) retained the copyright and could reissue the books once the given time period commitment to Singer expired. That is why you are seeing them again. So don't buy it unless you want to gift someone a copy.

  5. Wow. It's funny how that's happened. Maybe you can use one when you 'travel'?

    1. I love books and do need them for sewing resources, but I'm still trying to downsize a bit so I'll have to pass on having an extra one for travel. Knowing me, next I'll have overflow books in the car too.

  6. Good observation Faye. I have the first one and quite a few in the series. Now I don't have to think I am missing something. Next to my love of fabrics and everthing sewing related, books run a close second. Each time I see a new one I think I must purchase it. You have saved me some money. Thank you!

  8. Yes, I think at least some of the Singer series published under Cy DeCosse publisher is being put back out by C&T publishing, only without reference to Singer. I know "The Perfect Fit" book from the series is identical - same photos, index looks the same, and the text that I checked was identical right down to which page and location on the page. Fortunately I was able to return the new one.
