SEWING SPACES...

...mmmm yes, let's talk a little about our proverbial sewing (rooms, spaces, studios, or caves).
 Whether it's:
  •  a tiny closet (like mine use to be)
  •  the kitchen table (I've sewn there too)
  •  your bedroom (been there, done that)
  •  your basement, or
  •  a dedicated room
  • I even know one lady that has a complete little house located in her back yard (refrigerator, television, bathroom and all) lucky girl.
Whether we think it's the ideal place or not, there is something about it or in it that we love.  Why else would we spend so much time there?

Today I'm highlighting these beauties
My magnetic pin holders or cushions (as I call them) - I LOVE THEM.  Yep, I have a small collection (use to have 5 but gifted one of them) and really wouldn't want to be without them.   And would you believe that from time to time one of them will come up missing - go figure!  The lavender and dark blue ones are my oldest and most favorite.  They are made sturdier, heavier and don't come apart opposed to the two sitting in front.
SEWING SPACES - WHAT IS IT THAT YOU REALLY LOVE IN OR ABOUT YOURS, OR JUST COULDN'T DO WITHOUT???

  1. I love having my own space. When I first started I was in the dining room so I'm happy to be able to spread out and leave my things where they are.

I'd say I couldn't live without my serger!!!

    1. Yes Mrs. Smith, I've noticed that you do have a great big space; and I know how you feel about the importance of the serger.

  2. When I started out I was using a small space in a guest room. Since then it has become a full fledged sewing/craft room. My favorite is just being able to go in there and twirl in my chair and sew & craft in my head after a long work day.

    1. I feel the same way about my sewing room Sheila. Most times when I'm in here I'm not sewing but planning and just relaxing.

  3. I love having my big chest of drawers that sits perfectly in the closet. It holds so much stash! I also love my magnetic pin "cushions" too!

    1. You won't believe it Mary but I have a four drawer chest sitting in my fabric closet too. It holds all of my ponteroma knits (almost).

  4. I've always wished you could plug the sewing machine into the car lol! I've been all over the house with my sewing machine but now have a whole room but still pull it out into the living room when I feel the need to sew along with project Runway lol! even in the mess I can find peace in my sewing room lol! it's about to under go a whole new look, paint & all, I love the magnectic pincushions, just flip the pin & it goes right to it lol! since I've gotton a dress form I'm not sure how I've done without her for so long , my sewing room surrounds me with sweet memories like the quilts I've worked on with my aunt, cross sticheries my sister made,Raggedy Ann memorabilia , the hudge doll puzzel my husband conned his coworkers into putting together & framing on breaks for a birthday surprise many moons ago lol! & so much more

  5. What do I love about my space? It's pretty. That means a lot to me. I had sewing spaces, one quite large and bright, but they were always pretty rough and in the basement where I would be cutting next to water heaters or snow blowers. After a lifetime of that type of sewing space it is glorious to have something I consider pretty and decorated. Yes, it functions well and has all my goodies in it, but I like the way it looks, the most. For me it's just right. Thanks for asking, Faye.

    1. I'm glad I asked too Bunny! In this season of gratitude we have so much to acknowledge that being thankful for sewing spaces might seem minor. BUT, I don't think there is any harm AT ALL in giving thanks for the room that we spend so much time in and find so much joy. THERE IS NOTHING LIKE PRETTY!!!

  6. I love my door. I love that I can close my door to hide the chaos that sometimes is my sewing room.

  7. The door (hahaha) I didn't think of that one! Ingenuous, although I can't image any chaos in your sewing room Teri!

  8. My sewing space is a corner of the dining room. My favorite thing is my chair. It's so comfortable I prefer it to any other in the whole house and will often pull it up to the dining room table to do family business or journaling.

  9. I must agree Catherine there is nothing quite like a great chair in the sewing room - especially one you can multi-task. I love mine too!

  10. I love that all my fabric is in one place and that I can see it while sitting in the sewing cave. My fabric inspires me and encourages me to create!

    1. Carolyn...does your fabric stash really fit into one place? :) Your posts always make me want to go fabric shopping! At Kiwanis the other day a woman was talking about how some people she knows really have a lot of fabric. I thought, you have no idea!

  11. Like you, I took a break from sewing when life got in the way. Of course, I do believe it's all about choices in what you do with your spare time & maybe I could have used mine better (instead of plopping my tired tush on the couch after all was said & done!). :) But I'm happy to be back. I've sure missed it. What do I love? The smell of my hot iron. It's comforting & I know I'm doing something I love. I know I'm weird.

  12. I can deal with "the smell of a hot iron" being something to love about t sewing room. NOT WEIRD AT ALL!!!
