Nothing beats a great coat or jacket; they are my favorite items to sew. I know, I know; even though I whine, and moan and complain all the way through its construction. Often times when making a coat or jacket I put in much more work than is actually called for or required. Consequently this S-T-R-E-T-C-H-E-S the job out contributing to all my whining and moaning and complaining. In spite of it all, I really love the jacket/coat making process, adore my finished results and have learned so much with each every one that I've made. How long will coats and jackets remain my favorite? - I don't know. But we all know that favorite things are subject to change.
So I'm polling to ask: What's your favorite item to sew???
I just bought Vogue's new pea coat and then Mimi released hers... decisions!
ReplyDeleteAhhhh Anonymous, another coat person like me. Why make a decision?, why not make them both???
DeleteI love seeing jackets too!! Is the image a sewing pattern, if so details please?
ReplyDeleteIt was just an attractive Google Clipart Image Zynthia but I do like all three styles. All three are double-breasted designs with the center one being a classic trench but I think the other two could easily be frankenpatterned from a normal stash of patterns - don't you think???
DeleteMy favorite thing to sew is something that fits well and I don't have to make a lot of adjustments. Sigh only to dream.
ReplyDeleteAmen to that sister! But them we can all dream can't we.
DeleteShirts!!! Specifically men's shirts. The flat felled seams, the neatness of it all...love it! I also enjoy making any complicated designer's Vogue
ReplyDeleteMy hat's off to you Merche. I'm still very timid when it comes to collar bands or stands.
DeleteCoats are way up there for me as well! They are a pain during the process, but the payoff is so great.
ReplyDeleteYou're a woman after my own heart Wendy!
Deletejackets!!! l enjoy working complicated patterns and challenge myself.
ReplyDeleteI KNOW SIGRID, and you make some gorgeous jackets too!
DeleteI love sewing dresses most of the year. Now that school is getting back in session I've had my eye on a classic trench coat. Two years ago, I sewed a wool cape in the middle of August, wool and Florida humidity, not a good combination, I sweated and fussed the whole time, but I love my wool cape!
ReplyDeleteI've been on a dress kick or two myself Bonnie. I love them too.
DeleteMy favorite used to be tops, but of late I have been on a dress making palooza.
ReplyDeleteI've been on the tops thing and the dress thing too Sheila. Been loving all of your dresses.
DeleteFor me it's coats (of course)!
ReplyDeleteOh yes, and I love your coats too Tany!
DeleteWe share the same sewing jacket/coat love, Faye. It's my favorite and I don't think I could ever have enough of them. They give me much pleasure to sew and design. Like you, I go above and beyond what's specified but in the end I am always glad I did. Here's to happy coatmaking!!!
ReplyDeleteI always love the fact that you show so much of your coat making process Bunny.
DeleteI love making skirts! They really relax me. When I make somrthing more difficult, I'll start a TNT skirt to stay balanced through the process.
ReplyDeleteThe staying balanced part is very good advice Audrey!
DeleteI like making skirts the best. I have few fitting challenges with skirts and they come together quickly.
ReplyDeleteI've been on heavy skirt making quests before too Tomasa and agree that they do come together quickly.
DeleteI have made only one jacket and I was so proud of myself I decided to rest on my laurels. I prefer to make tops and dresses, not so much work. :)
ReplyDeleteI agree that jackets and coats can be quite daunting Kathy, and when we do get one finished it is such a relief. I love making tops as well.
