SECOND POCKET ATTEMPT...

Today I made my second welt practice pocket. Hope that you aren't tired of hearing about them yet. I think the second one turned out just a little better than the first one. I'm starting to feel just a little bit more confident about them now and think I'm ready to start the jacket construction. I just might do one more practice session before I put them on the actual jacket though. After this I'll have to practice on that stand collar thingy. THANKS FOR CHEERING ME ON!

  1. You are doing great! I plan to take on welts in August. I'm scared also but you have given me hope of success.

  4. There's something to be said of "practice makes perfect". You're doing great. Go to the jacket when you feel completely confident of cutting into it. Tip: should your welt not turn out just exactly as you want--you can put a patch pocket over it, OR make a pocket flap and sew it over the slash.

  5. Gwen is my kind of gal. If you make a mistake, cover it up, and no one will know. However, your pocket looks great. I'm like you, I'd practice one more time, just to feel really competent, then I'd plunge right in. Actually, I would probably just plunge right in, and then, wish I had practiced one more time!!!

  7. I knew you could do it. I have a great tutorial at home for collar stands. They've always been the weakest point of my shirts. I think it may be one of Sigrid's tutorials - I'll check the link when I am home and let you know. Her method took the fear out of collars and stands for me. They still aren't perfect, but they're a whole lot better now. Do the jacket pocket when you're ready, but I know it will look great! We aren't tired of hearing about it, it's great to see what someone else does and we can all learn more along the way as well!

  8. Your pocket looks great! You're totally right to practice before hand, by the time you start your jacket you'll be a pro!

  10. OK, you're guilting me into refining my welt pocket skills. Years ago I worked for Cindy Owings designs, and we did a lot of welt pockets. I swore I wouldn't forget how, but of course it's a bit foggy after 20 years. (Holy cow-20 years?!)
