FESS UP...

...NEVER SAY NEVER!  Wonder who first coined that phrase?  I really try hard not to say never.  But every now and then something comes up that makes me want to say "I'll never...".   I guess never saying never is like an insurance policy that keeps you from having to eat your own words (which, of course I've had to do on more than one occasion).

But, today someone asked me, "would you ever make a bra?".

And without even thinking I blurted out "NEVER"!  (Not to discourage or diminish those who do - mind you) I really don't think I'll end up eating those words, but it does bring up today's question...

What is it that you would never sew???

  2. A wool coat. Bras, I'm on the fence about that.
LOVE these "fess up" questions of yours!

    1. Wool is heavy and bulky to work with.

    2. I'm with you. I will never sew a bra. Now we'll see if something happens to change my mind!

    3. I guess it COULD happen, but I'm not doing anything to bring it into being.

  3. T-shirts, underwear, anything that you can buy in a 3-pack...

I would consider sewing a bra, actually. I'd love to have one that doesn't have strap problems or needs to be adjusted throughout the day!

  4. A quilt. Quarter-inch seam allowances and a thousand little pieces? Um....no.

    1. I've quilted before so I do understand about the 1/4" seam reservation.

  5. There is nothing I'd ever say I'd never sew. I think anything is possible.

    1. Love that word POSSIBLE! Matter of fact, I'm thinking about a derivative of that word for naming my sewing space. You do know that I name everything!

  6. Leather.......simply because I can't find a supplier where I live and I need to see and feel before buying, so mail order is not an option.

    1. Yes, I do imagine that leather would be a tricky thing to buy sight unseen.

I could, would and DO sew bras... from custom-drafted from scratch to altering commercial patterns.... and find it very rewarding. I have also sewn a complete tailored wool jacket (pad-stitching an all!)... but I don't ever want to do that again. Way too tedious for me... and once was enough... I don't really like wearing that style, anyway :)

    1. I do understand, that pad stitching is tedious, and I never really perfected the stitch. But since learning that the serpentine stitch available on some machines WORKS JUST AS WELL for tailoring techniques - I think I'm sticking with it!

  9. I Would have to say bras. Despite deconstructing one for use as a template, after deconstruction was done, the desire to sew one went out the window.

  11. I've more or less (!) decided I will not try to sew jeans any more, just bought 2 today. But a never? I love my bra making, it's nice to have good fitting ones without paying over 70 euro's for them. And did you know that once know how to do them, they can be done in only a few hours?

  12. I am so with you. I will never sew a bra. There is not enough industrial strength supplies for me to be able to make one - let alone expertise!

  15. Such an interesting question....From reading various blogs I am really interested in sewing bras and I have so much denim in my stash waiting for that perfect moment to make my own jeans...just need to fit the pattern. I try not to say never either....So there is not anything that I am not interested in sewing right now

  16. While I love Sigrid's wonderful lingerie I would never sew a bra for myself. I am a DD cup and even finding underwires for my size is hard to do and I can find bras that fit. The other thing I would never sew is a quilt. I don't really understand the appeal of quilting. What do you do with all of them anyway?

    1. RE: Quilt question - give them away. I love a pretty quilt, but I'm just not drawn into making them.

  17. I would never sew tailored men's wear. All that work and someone else wears it? ha, no way.

    1. I've sewn a mans camp shirt, and a couple of robes - that's about all. I understand, I don't have much interest in that area either.

  18. I've had to eat my own words many times in life so I'm a little reluctant to commit here. But I figure neither the sewing police nor the sewing blog police will check up on me. I'd like to sew bras or jeans but I bet it's not going to happen in this lifetime. Ce la vie.

    1. No Jane you are right - there will be no policing here. After all we are women and reserve the right to change our minds - right?

  19. I sewed a couple of swimsuits, and that's as close to fitted lingerie as I'm ever going to get. It's just too much work. And I'm not into sewing menswear, either, although I alter my hubby's clothes. He's very broad shouldered, and so I have to taper his t-shirts and polos, or his narrow waist doesn't look right. GAH! He stays thin without dieting. I'd hate him for it if I wasn't so crazy about him. So, no, no lingerie and no menswear.

  21. I sewed a bra, but I won´t sew it again...I think. Too painful! It drove me mad, I drove everyone mad and in the end the cheap ones at Primark fit me perfectly fine. And, just this afternoon I made a thong that ended up sitting under my armpits...really, another thing I´d rather buy. Oh, that and a wedding dress ;D

  22. Unfortunately, I want to have a go at sewing everything, including bras one day. Not sure why - but I do. Challenge, I think, but the biggest challenge is finding the time for this sort of delusional goal :) Seriously, I will leave things like undies and bras for the long way off in the future - too many outerwear sewing priorities first :)
