...I think it was at 11:55 p.m. Sunday night that I clicked the submit button with this entry. Week 2 was all about skirts and dresses. I managed to complete two knit skirts on Friday and Saturday and barely finished my dress on time on Sunday. The "Kicking Stash" week runs from 12:00 a.m. on Monday to 11:59 p.m. Sunday evening (that's eastern standard time).
I've loved Vogue 1314 since it's release and finally decided it was time to make it.
I really wanted to make the dress in a animal print so I choose a leopardcheetah (I really don't know which) sweathery knit out of my stash for the project. Ahhhh, wrong choice! The fabric was the right print, but did not have the right amount of SNAP or spandex content necessary to pull this project off. I should have known better and quickly came to the conclusion that the dress in this fabric was a complete wash. I had even (I think) convinced my Mother who hates me chunking ANY project that ditching the dress was the right thing to do. I comforted myself by promising to cut it up and make another project one day (yeah right).
Then after seeing several people make McCall's 6886
recently I had a light bulb moment. Why not just re- cut the Vogue dress to the McCall's patterns. I only needed to make a few adjustments by sliding the pattern down re-cutting the the upper bodice part, and removing some of the length and voila - this is what I came up with
Besides a little bit of pattern misplacement in the bust area I am really pleased with the results of this SAVE. Finishing the project is FAR better than having an UFO floating around in my sewing room.
Now I'm off to do some cutting for Week 3 projects - IT'S ALL ABOUT PANTS...

Fantastic save Faye! I love that McCalls pattern and it's perfect in that fabric!!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd you can totally toss a scarf on of the print placement drives you crazy.
Thank you Nakisha I'm so glad I was able to save this fabric. After people started complimenting me in the dress today, I forgot all about that pattern placement.
DeleteI love it and yes that was great save! You can't let that beautiful fabric go to waste. Again very nice job.
ReplyDeleteThank you Lisa!
DeleteI love when ever a project is saved! Especially this beautiful dress! It was so worth any time you put into it! Faye, you mentioned week 3 is all about the pants, are you still in a challenge? Or are you just planning to work on pants during week 3 of 2016?
ReplyDeleteThank you Myra and yes I am still in the challenge. I'm starting on my second pants (well actually leggings that Alethia said were allowed) tonight. I just haven't posted them yet. I have until Sunday night (11:59 p.m.) to work up a few pair.
DeleteVery clever save - your dress looks great!
ReplyDeleteThank you so very much Tomasa, and thanks for always posting such nice comments!!!
DeleteLove it!!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comment on my animal print dress Roz. I was just doubling back through my posts and comments when I noticed your comment. Yes, the dress was a save, thank goodness - I initially thought it was headed for file 13. Heard about your fabric shop through Andrea (SewToFit) and do plan on doing some shopping there when funds are right.
DeleteVery clever and nic job. I need an animal print dress for my collection
