MCCALLS 6400 - OK, WHAT'S UP WITH THIS PATTERN???

I'm sure it hit the pattern counters in mid-July, but yet I haven't seen any of the bloggers that I visit regularly stitch it up.   I like the serious asymmetrical vibe of the top, and it looks so quick and easy.  Truthfully, I've been just a little a-f-r-a-i -d to give it a whirl.  I even checked on pattern review, and only one person has reported making it.

WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THIS PATTERN???

  1. You know, I don't know what I think! Part of me really likes it. Part of me thinks it's a bit Star Trek. Part of me has made so many of this sort of knit top before (but not asymmetric) that I've had just about enough. But you should try it and convince me :-)

  2. I purchased that pattern recently during one of joanns sales and was thinking of working it up this weekend.

  3. I have this unreasonable dislike of anything asymmetrical-it's probably a mental problem!

  4. Honestly, I don't mind the hem, but the different length sleeves would really bother me in a feeling odd kind of way. But that would be something easy to change.

Go for it, if you love it!

  5. I like this top, I actually purchased this pattern recently during a Club BMV sale. I am thinking of making this pattern, but modifying to a dress. I have a stripe fabric that I've been wanting to use for years, and I want to incorporate a wide leather asymmetrical waistband into the dress.

  6. Was it a successful project in review? I really like it. I'd make it, if it be available here. If you like it, make it.

  7. I like it on the model, but worry that if I made it, it would just look like a mess rather than edgy and cool. I think my wide hips would break the lines that this top needs.

  8. It looks good to me Faye, I will not make it because it will ride up my hipline because I'm so curvy and that can be a pain in the your know what

  9. I have the pattern, and I'm probably going to make it up in the next two weeks, so there might be more than 1 review on PR soon...

    HI there.
I made this top 3 times now. I was skeptical at first too. I made a sample with an inexpensive knit I had in my stash. I loved it and so did my 19 year old. I made us each one. A week later she asked for another one. She wore the top to a party and all her friends raved about it. It's very comfortable.
I highly recommend you give it a try. It's a fun top.

  11. I really like the design, I wish there were more patterns out there for these kinds of designs. However, if you look on the long sleeve side is so much loose fabric that there really isn't anyway to wear this with a jacket so that's why I'm on the fence about buying it. Everywhere I go is so air-conditioned I don't think it would work for me.

  12. I think it's one of those tops I'd have to see sewn up to make up my mind. It could be great, but.....

  13. I don't mind the asymmetry, but the sleeve asymmetry bugs me. It needs to have the dolman sleeves on both sides.

Just my opinion, I could be wrong,

  14. I made four of these when I got the new serger. Did everything on the serger. 4 thread overlock on seams and cover on neckline and hems. Make sure the fabric has 2 or 4 way stretch. Looks nice.
