I hated those times! And then it seemed to start happening more and more; at least two or three times a year. In it's absence I was lonely and miserable, and would have tried almost anything legal and moral to get it back.
I tried forcing it back, but the results were not always successful. I worried about it like a woman with a lost child. Some people even suggested "just relax and take a break from it". But I really didn't care for that solution at all. What's a sewist to do?
Last night I read a post at SewingArtistry.com written by its author Claire Kennedy. Her post explained in full detail:
- what Sewjo actually is
- what happens to Ms. Sewjo
- why (she) up and leaves
- what coaxes her back, and
- how to convince her to stay!
Claire Kennedy is an excellent writer, sewist and teacher. I highly suggest paying her a visit soon at the SewingArtistry.com to learn more about nurturing your Sewjo and many other interesting things...
Great post Faye! When I lose my sewjo, making something for myself that’s quick usually gets me right back there! I enjoy reading Claire’s posts and agree with you, she’s a great teacher!
ReplyDeleteYes, sewing a TNT in those times is something she suggests. I love reading her blog too.
DeleteLovely post, Faye! When I lose my sewjo, it comes back if I sew a tried and true pattern that I k ow so well, it can’t help but work. Struggling with fit can sniff my sew jo in an instant.
ReplyDeleteThank you Linda. I was glad when Claire's post popped up in my blog feed; it truly was interesting reading. And I agree with you, I'm just about to pull out an old TNT pattern to work with tonight!
DeleteWhen I lose it, it's because I'm too busy, or, more likely, due to sadness. I did sign up for the Sewciety subscription box, and it's pretty nice, introducing me to patterns I wouldn't have otherwise tried, so that has gotten me to sew just a bit. I'll keep going if I can, or else try to find a way to be inspired next year.
ReplyDeleteI am just so glad that you are sewing again Marjie! I love it when I saw that picture of you at the retreat/sew camp a couple of months ago. The Sewciety subscription sounds interesting and getting introduced to new patterns is always a plus.
