#BLC 2018 - Day 15: Blogging

...a year ago I wrote a post (here) and talked about why I sew and why I blog about it.  I went back to review that post today and still agree with the reasons I noted at that time:
  1. to keep a journal for future reference of my projects, process and progress
  2. to stay connected to the virtual sewing community
  3. to exercise my writing muscle (thus my participation in the annual BlogLikeCrazy Challenge)
The thing that resonates with me today is that I use the blog to journal my sewing process - from start to finish.   From planning, pattern selection, pattern adjustments, construction, to finished project.  This is all important to me, and very beneficial as a reference to look back on for later use.  This lets me know what went right with the project, and what changes need to be made next time.

What is your method of documenting your sewing process???

  1. I remember that post too Ms. Faye! And you are very, very good at it too I might add! I can even go back to your posts for reference too! As you know, blogging was my best way of documenting my sewing process too...unfortunately, I hadn’t been taking the time to write. Now I use YouTube as a way to document and share what I do with others. I may go back to blogging in the future, but for now, it just YouTube & IG.

    1. I am so glad that referencing my posts have helped you Myra. I hope that the blog has helped others in some way too. I'm loving your YouTube vlogs. I think that what matters most is that do document regardless of the vehicle we use.

    2. Myra, I miss your blog posts!! What’s your IG? I recently joined, so I can follow you there! I don’t like videos because my internet and phone connectivity speeds aren’t very good!!

  2. Does sticky notes and copier paper with notes and drawings pinned to my walls count? Does written notes all over my cutting board count? Well, that's how I unofficially document. Gotta do better, LOL!

    1. Alethia that's fine! We all have different methods that we adopt. My problem with notes is that I loose them - even ones that I place in my purse for safe keeping.

  3. I blog for the same reasons, and my blog also plays that important part of a reference that I can go back to.

  4. It's been good me dipping my toe into video and seeing the difference. For now, I'm paused on it because writing comes to me so much more naturally. I think when I can see how video can support my blog writing, I'll come back to it, but maintaining that focus in writing and trying to create a comprehensive framework for what it is that I want to say is where I want to hang my hat right now. I always love seeing your writing Faye. You're so faithful to keep on keeping on, and it's such an encouragement to keep going!

  5. I don't really have an established procedure. Since I have been blogging for many years, my life has changed, my schedule has changes, and my goals have changed. It is a bit of public journaling, but I post wins AND failures now, I talk about the ups and DOWNS, and I go into great detail about things that jazz me. How would I describe my approach? Eclectic, perhaps?

    1. I agree Mimi because life changes dictate my blogging efforts. Not to even speak about work schedules. Our blogs are reflection of our lives and what is going on at the moment.

  6. I love your blog, and though I don’t comment often, I’m always excited to read what you post. I’ve especially been enjoying this year’s BLC posts! I toy with the thiught of doing a blog, but I am not sewing as much as I want to so, so when would I ever blog?! I do have a wirebound notebook where I’ve documented my projects since I started. Same notebook - not full after 5 years of sewing!

    1. We each have to find a method of documentation that work for us don't we Lisa. I try so hard to log information on my projects in a notebook too but often forget to write the information down. P.S. Thank you so much for reading here!

  7. I also use my blog to document what I've sewn (that's why I started too). And I love connecting with people like you, Faye, who inspire with your projects and the #BlogLikeCrazy theme!

    1. Thank you so much Denise. So many people talk negatively about blogging, but I like it and have spent many years working on it and loving it too.

  8. Faye, I keep a journal and have several on the shelve. I like the tactile experience of looking something up on a page and seeing my personal notes and drawings about a project. As I sew, that journal is constantly open with a pen on the page and I make notes as I go along. It helps as a reference when I then do blogposts on the garment. Once in a selfish while, not often, I will look at one of my journals and get a big smug and think, "did I really make all this?" While my blog serves as a record of my efforts as well, for me it is a vehicle for writing, which I enjoy, and sharing my passion with all its ups and downs. I also appreciate being part of the blogging community and all that offers. Your blog, which inspires so many, is a wonderful part of that.

    1. Thank you so much Bunny! I have got to get better in using my journal. I get sidetracked when sewing and forget to take pen and paper in hand.
