#BLC 2018 - Day 10: Free Your Mind and The Rest Will Follow...

... I get so excited at the mention of a great sewing challenge, or when I decide on a new project,  make a new plan, or even set a new sewing goal.  I start each one totally committed and with the best  intentions of making it to the finish line.  But every now and then I run into something that starts to feel like too much of a chore, and my joy disappears.  As much as I hate to admit it, this is what has happened to me with the Make Nine Challenge.

I've changed patterns several times hoping to reignite my seal for this, but that hasn't worked. I still think it was a great challenge, but maybe it really wasn't a GOOD FIT for me after all.  I could have  skipped right over this and never mentioned it again, but I felt I needed closure.  So I've decided to free my mind and move back into my freestyle mode of selecting and sewing my projects.  Maybe I'll try this challenge again next year, but for right now I'm ready for some sweet sewing relief...

  1. Enough said...do yo thang girl! (I removed the first comment because of a misspelling but said the same "thang"...I HATE when that happens and feel the need to correct myself. I'm going to bed...sleepy!

  3. Its OK to decide how YOU want to proceed with your passion. I have found lately that there are so many challenges out there in the sewing world now that I wonder if it is just click bait. I am sure it is but participating can be fun. However, it is a commitment and we like to live up to our commitments. My feelings are that it is sewing, not a relationship, and you can choose to express yourself any way you want. May you enjoy your creativity and that it's flow is not stymied by some sort of commitment. I totally get your movin'on.

  4. That happens to me to Faye! I've have now learn to just let it go. However, I do feel a little guilty if I have posted about it on social media and then never do it. (smile)

    1. Yep! Guilt is exactly what I was feeling too, so I felt I would just post it to bring closure so I could move on.

  5. When your sewing constrains or stifles your creativity, it's definitely time to change directions. You got so far with this challenge, no guilt needed. Now sew something fun!

  6. I feel like you really gave it a good try, and kudos to you for realizing it did not work out the way you wanted to, and having the courage to move on. I am sure you will find other things!!

  7. I've also kind of struggled with my makenine choices. I have sewn quite a few up, but what I end up doing is sewing 3-4 of the same pieces. I end up liking a pattern so much that I just keep sewing the same thing over and over. I know it works and I won't get frustrated, so it's "safe". Then the other patterns get pushed off. Sigh. I am still on the fence about whether or not a plan is good for my sewing happiness. As others have said, this is your sewing journey, so you do what works for you.

    1. "Sewing Happiness"! That sums it all up. I was having a hard time expressing my feelings not wanting to be negative about the challenge (because it really is a great one)but feeling somehow that I needed closure. Pushing the patterns back and changing them is all I was doing. I wish you much success with the challenge Natasha!

  8. Oh Ms. Faye I can totally relate! You did really good so far with what you’ve done! And lovely pieces too! But some times, I really want to do my own thing and not join a lot of challenges...so this year that’s what I did. It’s a great way to bond with your sewing commarades and get great inspiration and tips! But sometimes, you just want to do YOU! 🤗
