MY DREAMS COMING TRUE: SEWING ROOM PROGRESS & FINISHING THE LADY GREY COAT...

Well, it finally started!  And I love my paint color choice - "Powdered Snow", not to white and not to beige-y, but just right.  There is still such an awful lot of work to do in here.  Now that the first wall is painted (but still needs a second coat) it makes the ceiling look really dull - so now of course, the ceiling needs to be painted too.

Taking work schedules into consideration, I don't know, but I really can't see getting this finished before Christmas.  Not being negative, just being realistic.  Well, it is what it is; but it is still the beginning of MY DREAM COMING TRUE - I want to live with white walls!!!

Lady Grey Coat Status:

Will I complete it this weekend???, - well I really don't know.  I thought I'd finish it two weekends ago, and I certainly though I'd finish over the four day Thanksgiving weekend, but of course that didn't happen either.  There is not very much to do to finish, I've even written up my usual "What's Left to Do" chart:
  • give it a GOOD press
  • tack lining down
  • top stitch
  • attach belt loops
  • hem sleeve lining (had to patch to extend sleeve linings because they were too short)
  • Finish buttonholes
  • sew on buttons
  • schedule photo shoot (LOL)
Doesn't seem like a whole lot of work does it.  It seems that I should be able to get this all done today. I guess I'm just tired of this project, but I'm so anal about not starting another project before finishing this one.  I'm imprisoned with this  Lady Grey project - I have no sewing life beyond it right now, but there are soooooo many other things I want to make.  I WANT MY LIFE BACK.................................

  1. Ohh how exciting. I love the process of creating a creative studio. I can't wait to see how it will turn out! Good luck with your sewing this weekend. I hope you'll be able to finish the coat. Not only so you can start new exciting projects, but also because I look forward to seeing your coat :-)

  2. The transformation of your sewing room is looking really pretty...love the paint color. I just had to laugh about you wanting your life back...amazing how just one project can throw us off, but you'll be very happy that you finished this one. I'm sure every time you put this beautiful coat on, it will give you fond memories.

  4. It's great your sewing room is coming along nicely! I understand exactly how you feel about your coat. I'm going through the same thing right now with a jacket (I'm just trippin', you had way more things to do then I did). But I believe if we pace ourselves it will finally come to an end. I can't wait to see your coat. I know it will be worth it!

  5. I know how you feel when it comes down to the finishing touches on a project. But go ahead like Victoria said and pace yourself and it'll be done before you know it! I can't wait to see the finished coat. That paint color is really pretty!

  6. Your dream IS coming true. "Powdered snow" sounds like a beautiful light airy color. I admire your preparation to have patience that a project takes as long as it takes. I'm always chomping at the bit wanting only quick hits, but so many things in life take longer than a "one hour skirt".

  7. Sewing room....looking good! Sigh....often times it's those finishing details that take the most time and ultimately becomes a true test of our patience! But as we all know it's all worth it in the end. You are going to wear that coat well!

  8. I understand about being trapped by a project. If I may make a suggestion, maybe you should schedule pieces of your list over the next week and hopefully as you finish each section you will be encouraged to finish the coat up! And congrats on the painting of the room...I know it's in pieces now but just think how wonderful it will be to sew in your newly remodeled sewing room!

  9. The upheaval is tough, but with one coat of paint you can already see how much brighter the room is. It will be so nice to sew in a bright, light space. Even if you have to finally finish after Xmas, I think it will be worth it. (I am just dead jealous that you have a sewing room. That kind of space is an unimaginable luxury for most people here in the UK.)

You've been a trouper with the Lady Grey. I gave up on the first muslin! You've been so careful and meticulous, and you chose such pretty fabrics, I am sure it will look great. I can't wait to see your final picture of it.

  10. Oh, you are such a tease! :P

We all know that this coat is a work of art and we still have to wait for the finishing touches to see it? I know it's going to be gorgeous and I'm looking forward to you sharing it on your blog.

  11. OHHHH Faye, don't worry, you'll get your life back and it will be that much better! Just hang in there and "keep your eye on the prize"!!! Good luck and love the walls!!!

  12. You are so close! Funny about how painting walls makes you realize you need to paint the ceiling, too. My husband and I are slowly painting every room in our new house and once you start painting, you realize everything needs to be painted!

  13. Oh my gosh, you've made so much progress on your coat! You are in the home stretch! I cannot wait to see it finished.

  14. I hope it's coming along! So smart not to move on to the next project until the previous is completed. I almost always follow this rule, and the rare exceptions inevitably become long-term UFOs.

  15. Think positive; Lady Grey's almost done, and your sewing room is progressing nicely. And I heard Santa's trying to figure out how to give you more sewing time, because you've been such a good girl...

  16. I think your sewing is showing great progress and Lady Grey, too. Keep at it and you will see the finish line soon enough.
