FLIPPING OVER INTO FALL FOR JUST A MINUTE...

...yes, I said Fall ya'll.  Although Georgia temperatures constantly soar up to 100 degree, it's nice and cool in my sewing room - Thank God!  Makes you wonder why my post title references Fall.  Well, I've had two light weight knit jackets on my make list since last fall that I just couldn't find the time to sew up.   I decided that now would be an excellent time to tackle them so when they will be all ready for Fall.  I'm trying to work smart for a change; here's the first of the two:
I made this simple pattern in a black pontederoma knit 3 or 4 years ago, and really didn't like it.   Turns out that that black jacket ended up being the most worn garment I've ever made.  When temperatures start to drop this is the jacket I usually reach for.  Every time I wear it I find myself thinking, "I really need to make this jacket in another color", but just never got around to doing it.  So I just went ahead and knocked it out ahead of time this weekend.  I think I need a brown one as well but will probably use a different pattern.
I also managed to finish up another Simplicity 8128, this time for myself.  I tell you I hate what a bust dart does to a stripped fabric.  That being said I will wear this top even though stripe matching is impossible in the side seams due to the bust dart.

I have the entire week off, so happy sewing to me and to you.  Hope everyone has a safe and happy Fourth of July...

    1. I'm not fully ready for fall sewing either Tomasa, although I truly love sewing for that season. Just needed to get these jackets off my list. This afternoon I'm already back into sewing for summer.

  2. I am never ready for fall with my sewing. Unlike you I don't have ac in my sewing room and it gets hot up there. We are having a rather cool early summer maybe I should sew up the wool double knit cardigan that is sitting in my ufo drawer! I'm sure that you'll get a lot of use out of this lovely jacket.

    1. I'm never ready at the change of seasons either Nancy. I just got tired of looking at this fabric folded up and needed to get it off my list. Loved your coat, and if you do get to that ufo cardigan it will be already ready at first fall chill.

  3. I think it's a great idea that you sewed something for fall ahead of time. And something that you know you'll wear a lot of is even better. It's a great jacket!

    1. I thought it was a good idea too Carolyn. I was tired of this jack being on the list. Now it's done and done!

  4. I love the color that you've sewn your jacket in, Faye! I made this one up a few years ago, in red and I loved it. I've been debating with myself as to what fabric to make the S8128 in- I'm at a complete loss on that one; however, yours is so cute!

    1. I remember your red jacket Candice. I think S8128 would make up nicely in any woven fabric solid or print. However I still don't like using a stripe with a bust dart pattern. Messes with my stripe matching

  7. These look great, Faye. And if it's cool in your sewing space, I say sew whatever you want! I find sewing off season rather enjoyable, kind of like playing hooky!

  8. It's funny how some makes, even if not liked, become really used items.. And if you make up the coat that you just commented on when you visited my last post - it is not lined, although you could add a lining. The sleeves and armscye are on the small side, so muslin first.

    1. I am usually ALWAYS behind when the season changes so I wanted to get at least a few things done now so I will be ahead of the game when the temperatures start to fall.

  12. Since we barely had any summerdays, I have skipped into fall sewing as well. That and the fact that I love having a wardrobe ready to go by the time fall actually gets here. Love the color of your jacket!
