Being sick is really NO FUN! It's been a whole week now since I came down with the creeping crud but I am slowly beginning to feel like myself again. I took Monday off but had to return to work on Tuesday and also had two nights of class left before the end of the quarter. Praise God I did make it through and I passed my final exam too. God really showed out for me, bringing things back to remembrance as he promises he would. I really missed being in my sewing room, and was able to get back in it on Friday night. I have two garments finished as a result of sewing last night, today and this evening.
First is Vogue 8379. For some reason I took these pictures before hemming the sleeves and bottom of the dress - but I did finish it up tonight. The dress went together pretty easily although the layout was really time consuming. I really hate it when large pattern pieces have to be cut on single rather than folded fabric - that is EXTRA work! And as usual I do not like the look of my garments on my dress form. Although it does assist me with fitting, when I take a picture of it - it makes the garment look so large. I HATE THAT. This dress has a collar and a wrap front with pleats or tucks at the front waistline. The fabric is a black with white polka dot cotton knit. The dress ties at the waist but the ties don't show up in the picture. I stitched the back facing down under the collar because I did not want any problem keeping it in place.
And next is Vogue 7027 made into Capris from fabric gifted to me from Ebony at "A Needle for My Thoughts. The fabric is a really light weight linen like white fabric with black strips. At first I thought the fabric was a really good pants weight, but after cutting it I realized that it was slightly see through. I hated to do it-but I had to fully line them. Thank goodness I had enough white coupe deville lining on hand because I was taking a Hancock break this week and didn't want to make that trip. I had made a muslin from this pattern and used the actual muslin as my pattern. The pants have front and back darts and side pockets. Pockets are presenting a challenge right now because I just can't seem to get them to lie flat enough. I shortened the pattern to make capris rather than full length pants cause it's a little HOT in Georgia right now.
Lastly before I run and jump into bed are pictures of my beautiful gardenia bush in the back yard. It has been years since this bush has had more than two or three random flowers on it when it bloomed. For some reason this year it is in full bloom and soooo beautiful. Too bad that I can't even smell it because of this sinus problem.
