#BLOGLIKECRAZY DAY 28: CASCADE OR WATERFALL...

...some call this design cascading; some call it waterfall when referring to draping effect of the front panels.  I prefer waterfall because it sounds more romantic.
MCCALL'S 7262

My client chose this mid-weight gray and black sweater knit from Hancock's that raveled off in small chunks rather than in shedding strings - not her fault - neither of us knew it was going to be like that.  Sewing through 2 layers turned out to be quite bulky, however; and caused a little stress when sergering - but it had to be serged.

All went well during construction,  only 4 pattern pieces. The hardest part of the project was putting in the button holes - uggh, gave me a real FIT!, thank goodness there were only 3 of them.  After many practice runs I had to end up pulling out an older sewing machine to complete the buttonholes.

The front bands went on effortlessly compared to others of this type that I have made.  All in all this was a nice 2 day project for me, and I think I'll be making it again for my daughter while I still have the pattern out.

HAVE YOU MADE ONE OF THE DRAPED NECK (CASCADING/WATERFALL DESIGNS) YET???

The waterfall cardigan is going to be a great workhorse for the changing weather. Great idea to whip out the old machine to tackle those button holes.

    1. I think it'll be a workhorse for her too, nothing like having a favorite wrap, cardigan, sweater or jacket to grab without even thinking about it. Pulling out the old machine was more of an absolute necessity than a great idea though. I love having my old dependable heavy duty machines to fall back on.

  4. Faye,
May I ask how did you do the buttonholes? What did you use to stabilize? I have seen many of these types of jackets but yours is the first one that looked "practical" ( that I could wear in my rather unglamorous life!).
Thank you for all that you do! I love your blog and I love the #bloglikecrazy. It gives me something to look forward to!!!

    1. Janet is such a cute name - there's got to be a little spark of glamorousity in there somewhere (lol), believe me there's not all that much here either - but I find it's all in the state of mind. I used a tear away embroidery stabilizer that I completely forgot to mention in the post, so thanks for bringing it back to my memory. Even though the band where the buttonholes are made is interfaced, I always try to remember to use the stabilizer because it does make for a nicer buttonhole overall especially in a knit fabric.
This knit dug right down in the feed dogs of my machine and made it very hard for the machine to move. Nice fabric, but difficult to feed. I have one more piece of it in a different color way in my stash. NOT LOOKING FORWARD TO SEWING IT THOUGH.
Additionally, THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH FOR READING HERE! Makes me feel good that you enjoy my blog. Only two more days left of BloglikeCrazy (may I say it has been a crazy busy 30 days keeping up with it too). But I do so hope you continue to tune in to FayesSewingAdventure in the days and months to come, but posting will be a little slimmer.

  5. A waterfall is also called a cascade, so I agree with both! =) Like others, I also have this pattern and want to sew it. One day!

    1. Yes, I've heard it called both and I like both too, but love visions of beautiful waterfalls. I'm sure you'll love sewing the pattern as well when you get around to it L. I have sooo many patterns that I want to get around to that it's a shame!

  7. Lovely coat Ms. Faye!! I bet your client is a happy camper!! I didn't know they had "sweater knit" type fabric at Hancock? I was just there Friday and guess I missed it! I'm in need of some nice fall jackets and sweaters for the cool Florida weather (whenever we get some!!)

  9. I actually just finished sewing this pattern for myself. I took away a lot of the width at the hem and cut the side seams straight down to take away some of the feminine feel. I also used leather for the button band and the sleeves. Looks great!
