BLOGLIKECRAZY 2016 DAY 17: I Like The Way She Sews...

...i sew, you sew, we all sew.  After all, basic clothing construction is not exactly rocket science.  If you can read the pattern instruction sheet, have a good sewing resource book, or make use of You Tube - help be out videos. we can end up with pretty decent hand-made garment results.  But, there is still one major problem; that being the issue of F-I-T!

Remember when you could just choose a pattern, quickly determine the right size, and cut the pattern right out of the envelope?  Well, if you are anything like me, that doesn't just automatically happen every time anymore.  Patterns have changed a bit since many of us first learned to sew; but more so - our bodies have changed.  Very little if anything at all was taught in Home Ec about fit or pattern alterations, so what happens when:
  • Your waist measurement is not even printed on the pattern size chart
  • You are overly endowed in the butt area causing dresses and skirts to hike up in the back
  • One hip is higher than the other
  • You cup size is triple D and the pattern is designed for a B Cup
  •  You can't understand the difference in the pattern envelopes finished garment measurements and the information printed on the tissue pattern
All these problems (and many others) pop up in sewing rooms every day.  So what's a sewist to do?  Resource books and videos offer some assistance, but sometimes we still don't quite understand the proper way to address fit problems.  It would be helpful if  we had someone to actually show us!
When the student is ready...the teacher will appear.
Enter Andrea Davis of SewToFit.  Guess I should have titled this post "I Like the Way She Fits".

  4. Wow! I love Andrea's look! And that apron is just adorable. Fit issues are so difficult to deal with; that's why I figure out a pattern and stick with it. And I still end up adjusting the fit with every different fabric. Off to see Andrea now!
