#BLC 2018 - Day 28: Reviving SEWJO - Sew What You Know...

...yesterday I wrote about Claire Kennedy's recent post on retrieving your "Sewjo" - should it go missing in action.  In order to get sewing motivation moving again, one of the things she suggests is making a quick TNT pattern.  Something you've successfully made before.  A pattern that has already been fitted, you've worked out all the kinks and love wearing.

Comments on yesterday's post revealed that other sewists also use the TNT method to ignite their sewing passions again.  For my next project I'll be doing the same - sewing what I know.  I had relevant success a couple of weeks ago with New Look 6415.  I've already worn it twice which means I really like it a lot.   Other people like it as well.

I'll be making View D with long sleeves rather than 3/4 length sleeves again, in this red variegated sweater knit (Hancock stash).
I'm cutting tonight so hopefully this top/sweater it will be completed before the weekend, so stay tuned.

I am very interested in knowing what TNT pattern you use to coax you Sewjo back home - do tell...

  1. Love you new fabric choice! Can't wait to see it!
I definitely use one of my TNTs to keep myself motivated. One of my go yo patterns is Butterick 5954. It was introduced to by someone who used it to make a long lace tank top. I was intrigued and have used it 4 times and am planning to use it again soon.

  2. Your top and the fabric for your sweater are both absolutely gorgeous! I have this pattern too and have not made it yet. I was attracted to view A which is what made me purchase the pattern. However, that version actually takes a lot of fabric for a top and therefore the reason I have not made it yet. I also love the version you’re about to make, view D. I think it’s really cute too and I’m looking forward to seeing yours completed! Good luck, looks like you’re getting back on track!

    1. Thank you and yes, I was originally attracted to view A and had planned to make it in the velour that I used for my last top. But, you are so right, that was just too much fabric and making it in the velour would have produced a very heavy top. That was not what I was aiming for.

  3. ...BTW, my favorite TNT to reach for is a top pattern I cloned from RTW!

    1. Thank you so much for sharing that. I am just so noisy and want to know what patterns everyone else depends on. I haven't "scratched off" any garments as of yet. Maybe you could do a vlog about the process of creating your TNT one day on your channel. Fingers crossed that you will (lol).

  4. Sewing something that is a TNT to rescue your sewjo is the way to go. I will be making pillows to decorate my sofa for the holidays, hopefully, my sewjo will be rescued.

    1. I pray that the beautiful pillows you make are just the ticket back to wanting to sew more and more!

  5. My favorite is a McCall's pattern from Palmer/Pletsch. I don't have the pattern # handy at this time. Love your new fabric and look forward to seeing it completed. I am starting an Itch to Stitch pattern now.

    1. Most Palmer/Pletsch patterns that I am familiar with seem to be good basic designs that can be morphed into other great fashions so I can see your point in using them as TNT's. Looking forward to seeing your new Itch to Stitch creation too!
